“Surround yourself with the dreamers and the doers, the believers and the thinkers, but most of all, surround yourself with those who see greatness within you, even when you don’t see it yourself” ~ Edmund Lee

Have you ever been asked “what do you desire?” Asking is one thing, but achieving is another. Did you know that you are more likely to reach your goal if you have someone (or a community) to support AND stretch you? According to a recent study conducted by the Dominican University of California people who not only wrote down their goals but also shared their information with someone and sent weekly updates to were on average 33% more successful in accomplishing their stated goals than those who merely wrote them down.

Do you have big goals? Awesome! It is important to dream big but also share it with others. It is also extremely valuable to have someone hold you accountable, check in and stretch you to ensure your success. This person should not be your family or dear best friend. Why? Because this person loves you unconditionally and will always support you and cheer you on no matter what. Don’t get me wrong, this type of support is wonderful and has its place for love and encouragement BUT you need someone who will challenge and stretch you to be your best and accomplish more. Someone who sees a greater version of yourself and holds you to that vision in front of you so that it can become a reality. Having someone tell you the truth and steer you back on track when you get derailed.

I challenge you to create your own tribe of people who serve you in this way. It could be someone you already know or someone new to your life.  Either way by doing so you will be reaching your goals in no time. Plus they will be there to remind you of your greatness when you get short sighted.

So how do you find this person(s)? Seek out someone who you feel comfortable with but also is already where you want to be (or at least close to it). This way they know that success IS possible and offer support and guidance to get you there. Think of (or even better, write down) the characteristics of who your ideal mentor/friend/teacher would embody. Are they bold, authentic, kind, compassionate, look, speak or act a certain way? What do YOU need in this person to be successful.

Take action to draw these people into your life. Look for individuals who make you want to be inspired and live better. Then don’t hesitate to reach out to them, ask them to meet in person or connect them over an email or Facebook. You most likely will find they are flattered and say yes. Go ahead and create it! This connection and essential s-t-r-e-a-t-c-h is just what you need.
